People with MS want to work but often struggle to do so. Unfortunately, Canada’s outdated Employment Insurance sickness benefit lacks the flexibility needed by individuals who live with an episodic disability like MS. More than 60% of people who live with MS eventually reach unemployment. It’s time to change that.

We call on the Government of Canada to:

  • Reduce the hours needed for eligibility from 600 to 400 to allow access for people in part-time and precarious work.
  • Remove the one week waiting period to ensure no one is left waiting when an MS relapse causes them to miss time at work.
  • Eliminate the clawback in the Working While on Claim provision to allow a flexible return to work, without penalizing people who can work part-time or reduced hours.
